Friends come and go, but with a precious few you should hold on....

Sorry I've been a bit quiet for the past two weeks - I have been home in Durban (South Africa) and in a state of complete relaxation...

I wanted to share some pictures that we had shot at my house and Umhlanga beach with my beautiful besties - i have known these girls since my teens and although we all live across the globe we are still so close. It was such a great day and included a 6-hour long champagne fuelled breakfast afterwards! Images taken by the very talented Fiona Clair - view her blog here and her Facebook page here

Going home always makes me reflect on life and yesterday I was listening to Baz Luhrmanns sunscreen lyrics (hence the title of this post) - here are some of my fave lines:

Enjoy the power and beauty of your youth, in 20 years, you'll look back at photos of yourself and recall in a way you can't grasp now how much possibility lay before you and how fabulous you really looked.

Don't be reckless with other people's hearts.
Don't put up with people who are reckless with yours.

Don't worry about the future,
Don't feel guilty if you don't know what you want to do with your life

Get to know your parents.
You never know when they'll be gone for good.
Work hard to bridge the gaps in geography and lifestyle, because the older you get,
the more you need the people who knew you when you were young

Don't expect anyone else to support you

Maybe you'll marry, maybe you won't.
Maybe you'll have children, maybe you won't.
Maybe you'll divorce at 40.
Maybe you'll dance the funky chicken on your 75th wedding anniversary.
Whatever you do, don't congratulate yourself too much, or berate yourself either.
Your choices are half chance.
So are everybody else's.

Everybody's Free To Feel Good...

Back in business as of today! xxx

Trending Tuesday - leather, I love you

An ode to my favourite fabric - leather. Skirts, trousers, jackets, waistcoats, bags, shoes...the list goes on and I'll have it all - in every colour.

A bit late on the 'Tuesday' trend as I have been busy getting ready to go back to South Africa for two weeks on Friday. Shaking in my boots with joy and excitement xxx

Trending Tuesday: Strap me up!

It's times like these when I wish I hadn't thrown away any of my old clothes. I had an amazing pair of strappy sandals just like the ones above seen on Aimee from Songofstyle. I like them because the ankle strap accentuates a skinny ankle - one benefit of having stick-like legs!

The horizontal straps (neon Celine or DVF's) look great with a pedi, but if you prefer to keep toes hidden in winter then don a pointed pair with ankles straps like the blue Zimmermann, neon Louboutins or white/black Wang pair. I never thought I'd see the day when I'd want a pair of white pointed shoes but alas Wang has brought the sexy back!

Oh course I can't find any down under at the moment so online it is. Zara UK have a fab pair at the moment in black or gold.

Pretty pictures

I'm a big fan of art and I wish I hard carried on after school but alas travelling and other things took priority. One day I hope to start up again but in the meantime I can always buy art!

I absolutely adore Sarah Hankinson's illustrations ever since I saw them in styled in little white frames in Portmans and went on to get them for my room. They are beautiful, feminine and contemporary. She does gift cards, framed prints and has just introduced t-shirts to her repertoire.

You can order everything here

Queen Kling

So if anyone hasn't noticed already the Swedes are all really good looking people, and most of them dress really well. I've met a few on my travels and they are all blonde, blue eyed and go that perfect shade of golden in the sun - the perfect race? Perhaps. Jealous? Maybe.

To make matters for us mere mortals enter Elin Kling - the ultimate style babe from Sweden. For those of you who don't know her she is a model/blogger/designer/magazine editor - basically she does it all. Her blog, StylebyKling is a go-to for many fashionista's. She artfully mixes simple pieces with one statement piece - and she knows how to work the leather trousers!

She's in Aus at the moment for MBFW and has launched a new clothing line called Nowhere, available at Mycatwalk. The range includes lots of basic silhouettes and neutral colours (a girl can never have too many tees after all) - all at reasonable price points.
